6312 is Longines designation for the ESA 9162. The 9162 is an electronic tuning fork movement designed in 1969 by Max Hetzel who also designed the Bulova Accutron movement. Hetzel left Bulova and joined Ebauches SA and set about designing for them a luxury tuning fork movement that would become the 9162. These movements were actually produced under a licensing agreement with Bulova for use of the tuning fork technology. This is the same basic movement as the Omega and Certina f300.
